General Introduction
Established in 1988, UTS, who opted for Measuremen’s Educational Observation Study, is a public university of technology with culturally diverse campus life and vibrant international exchange study and research programs. With a total enrolment of over 44,000 students, UTS is one of the largest universities in Australia. Reputed Internationally as the highest-performing university in Australia under 50 years of age (Source: QS Top 50 Under 50 2016–2021).
Problem
UTS did not have enough resources to understand how the workspace gets used. At the same time, lecturers frequently demanded bigger classrooms for teaching. Scheduling and allocating teaching areas was thus a tough problem for the space planners at UTS.
Goal
UTS planned to undertake a space utilisation study with Measuremen. The Educational Observation Study was conducted to identify the unused or under-utilised spaces at both workspaces and teaching areas.
